The UDCA Home and Garden Tour, held Sunday August
17, was a great success. Over 450 visitors toured the two gardens, six
homes (three of which also showed their gardens) and historic All Saints
Church. Everyone had a grand time whether they walked or rode the red
trolley along the route.
Many also enjoyed the food and entertainment around
the ticket tent at All Saints Church. Our thanks go to the participating
homeowners, All Saints for
lending their parking lot for the venue, to JD Whitlow (313) 346-7046
the food vendor, to Justin Crutchfield (313) 377-2461 the magnificent
DJ, and Jack Wright, driver of the Wyandotte Trolley (734) 324-4502.
The biennial Home and Garden Tour is the UDCA’s major
fundraiser. The proceeds from the event go into the UDCA Treasury to
help support UDCA activities (Snow Plowing, Newsletter, Web Site,
General Membership Meetings, Yard Sale, Dinner Dance, etc.). Volunteers
worked many hours to create such a successful event. The Home Tour
Committee was Co-Chaired by Holly Clements and Vicky Reyes. Constant
support was provided by Committee Members: Ken Clements (Signs), Ricardo
Reyes (Facilities & Set-up), Rosa Stephens (Home Selection), Mary
Leonard (Publicity), Betty Davis (Docents), Matt Aldrich (Photographer),
Genet Barthwell (Caterer for Homeowners’ Dinner), Selma Goggans (Prize
Chair), as well as Jesse Cassida, Starlit Smith, Addie Smith and Dave
Marquardt.
